I have a great interest in, and am very passionate about social justice. I strongly agree with the Bryan Stevenson quote that “the opposite of poverty is not wealth, but justice.” The Binghamton area has suffered from one of the longest periods of economic depressions in New York State. As such, there is no shortage of despair on full display. This reality is accentuated by the drastic dichotomy of affluence in the neighboring suburbs. I have spent more than twenty years empathically documenting this socioeconomic stratification. “Emotion in Contrast” explores these disparities by pairing images that delineate the differences and similarities across our social caste.
